Registered Number of Voters in Lagos Now Seven Million – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Lagos State says the state currently has about seven million registered voters. The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday. According to him, if the number of new registrants so far in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration is added to those in the register of voters before in the state, the number will be about seven million. In Lagos State as of Monday (July 18), those who registered online are 640, 560 but many of them have not completed registration. Those who have completed the registration are 451, 156. “The total number of registered voters in Lagos State before the commencement of the ongoing CVR is 6,570,291, and if we add the new registrants, we have about seven million registered voters,” Agbaje said. By this feat,  Erelu Dosunmu has, therefore, succeeded late Mrs. HID Awolowo, wife of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo who last held the title. BOSKOH HMI to Commence Free Medical Outreach in July - Nike Osa

By Yinka Fagbile The Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and Kadri Obafemi Hamzat Health Mission International (BOSKOH HMI), has stated that it will commence the 4th edition of its annual medical outreach programme in July tagged “JIGI BOLA RELAUNCH”. The BOSKOH HMI, an initiative of the Lagos State Governor and his Deputy, is a free medical and health awareness mission that provides for access to healthcare, including surgeries, eye, ear, and dental, as well as general wellness checks for Lagos residents especially those who are unable to afford them owing to financial impediments. Except for the year 2020 owing to the COVID-19 menace, it is reported that over 200,000 residents have benefitted in the past including people who got counseling, treatments, and health education during the “Healthy Bee” project as well as 85 successful cataract surgeries at the Mushin General Hospital. Lagos Set to Launch Smart ID Card for Residents

By Yinka Fagbile The Lagos State Government will on Wednesday, 20th of July, launch the  upgraded Lagos Smart Identity Card (LAG ID CARD) thus, replacing the Lagos State Resident Identity Card popularly known as LASRRA Card. In a release on Tuesday, the state government, says the formal launch will be done by Lagos Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Police College, Ikeja. The General Manager of LASRRA, Mrs. Ibilola Kasunmu,  in the official release says "the launch will happen simultaneously, across the five divisions of the state". This includes Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lsgos Island and Epe. It would be recalled that the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) had earlier announced the upgrade of Lagos State Resident Identity Card (LAG ID) for residents in the state to a smart card embedded with more features and functions that enable the cardholders to enjoy and have access to faster and better services from the Lagos State Government. INEC begins distribution of PVCs in Lagos

By Ochogwu Sunday The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has commenced the distribution of over 33,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for newly registered voters in the state. Mr Olusegun Agbaje, the Resident Electoral Commissioner made this known on Wednesday in Lagos. Agbaje told newsmen while handing over PVCs to registered voters at INEC offices in Somolu and Kosofe local government areas that the PVCs were for those who registered between June 2021 and Dec. 2021. He urged the affected persons to approach INEC offices in the 20 local governments between 9am and 3pm from Monday to Friday to collect their PVCs. According to him, there is no collection of a PVC by proxy, every applicant must appear physically to collect the card. LAWMA DESTROYS ANOTHER 600 CARTS

...Vows to Punish Environmental Offenders  The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has destroyed over 600 handcarts seized from illegal cart pushers across the State, bringing the total number seized and destroyed to about 1000 in less than two months since the clampdown commenced.  Speaking on the exercise, the MD/CEO, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, noted that the seizure and subsequent destruction of the carts clearly demonstrated the position of the Lagos State Government on solid waste management.  He said the agency would continue to enforce the present administration’s zero-tolerance for indiscriminate dumping of waste being perpetuated by cart pushers, adding that LAWMA is making tremendous progress and would not relent until illegal cart pushers are completely removed from the State. Lagos Fires Judge Who Dissolved Marriage, Impregnated Complainant’s Wife The Lagos State Government on Monday says it has fired a customary court judge, Mr Ishola Razaki Adeyemi, who allegedly dissolved a marriage between a couple and impregnated the wife of the complainant, Olayemi Ayeni. Ayeni in a now-viral video was seen recounting his tumultuous ordeal in the hands of Adeyemi, whom he claimed made his life a living hell. Street Urchins Attack Vehicle Conveying Journalists on Tinubu's Entourage in Lagos.

By Yinka Fagbile  Street urchins popularly known as area boys on Sunday attacked a bus conveying journalists on the entourage of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, smashing it's screens and windows. The incident occured on Lagos Island, immediately Tinubu, in company of prominent politicians across the country in his entourage left the place of Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos, where he had gone to pay homage. Asiwaju Tinubu was arriving Lagos for the first time, twelve days after he won the APC primaries held in Abuja to emerge as presidential candidate of his party. According to eye witness reports, two journalists sustained severe injuries while others did not leave unscathed when the popular area boys attacked their vehicle, throwing stones and other dangerous objects. Ojo Majority News could not confirm as at press time the reason for this attack or whether it was politically motivated.
