In a show of strength and solidarity, Chief Usman Giwa, the Odofin of Ilogbo Elegba, on Saturday, February 8, organised a Health Walk in honour of Hon. Kareem Azeez Abiodun, the leader of Asejere Movement, a Socio-political and cultural group in Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area, Lagos State.
The event, which took place in Ward C, Ilogbo Elegba, a community in Oto-Awori LCDA, Ojo, Lagos State, drew prominent personalities, frontline political and community leaders, youth organisations as well as relevant stakeholders. Their presence underscored the Movement's growing influence and support base.
The Health Walk which kicked-off from Ilogbo/Babalola went enroute Foubri, Ilogbo Ile, Kajola, Itire, Ilemba-Awori to Shibiri and back to Ilogbo Elegba via Santana/Otinrin river, served as a platform to promote physical fitness, community engagement, and social cohesion.
Participants who adorned very colourful Ankara cum Aso-Ebi attire with branded faze caps to complement, marched through the streets, advocating for healthy living and demonstrating their commitment to the Asejere Movement's ideals.
Hon. Kareem Azeez Abiodun, the leader of the movement, in a heartfelt message, expressed gratitude to Chief Usman Giwa, executive and members of the Asejere Movement, all participants, the people and residents of all communities walked through for making the event a successful outing.
In his words: "I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude to see our communities and organisations come together in such a remarkable way. I want to thank Chief Usman, the Odofin of Ilogbo Elegba, and everyone who participated in this Health Walk for their support. Today, we have demonstrated our commitment to healthy living, community development, and the Asejere Movement's ideals. I am truly humbled by this show of solidarity.", Hon. Kareem, said.
The Director General of the Movement, Hon. Abdulkabir Mumuni also acknowledged the contributions of all well wishers, emphasising that the importance of community-driven initiatives in promoting social change and development can never be underestimated.
Also, the Director of Media and Strategy of Asejere Movement, Dr. Yinka Fagbile said the Asejere phenomenon has gained momentum in recent times, with its leader, Hon. Kareem Azeez Abiodun, being a vocal advocate for grassroots development and community empowerment. He expressed excitement at the massive turn out of people, adding that the movement has become a household name that has come to stay.
Present at the walk were community leaders, youth organisations, Supervisory Councillors, Ward Councillors, members of the Road Transport Unions, Human rights organisations, members of religious bodies, and lovers of healthy living and lifestyle.
Others include, Hon. Ajose Tekobo, Hon. Audu Awoyemi, the Aro of Shibiri, Chief Babatunde Kareem, Chief Lamoriu, Usman Aliu and many others.
The success of the Health Walk has reinforced the Movement's position as a force to be reckoned with in the area. As the Movement continues to gain traction, it is likely to play a significant role in shaping policy and governance in the Council Area and environs in the nearest future.
